Originally released in 1998 as a seven track 12" on the SOMA RECORDS sub label FENETIK MUSIC, the debut SIDEWINDER EP is sparse, scratchy and lo-fi but shimmers with promise. It’s beats are deep, moody and minimal. It’s a far from slick affair but everyone starts somewhere, and the beginnings of the SIDEWINDER sound are taking shape. The grooves, the crackly jazz snippets and the sense of atmosphere is all there.
The original tracks have been carefully lifted from the original DAT tapes along with 4 bonus tracks recorded over the same time period.

The SIDEWINDER project started around 1997 with an Akai sampler and a pile of second hand records with the idea of making some collage inspired quirky beats from lots of different sources.
A bassline from here, a flute sample from there, a snappy snare drum and some atmospheric noise.
Here is a growing archive of old tracks that came out on vinyl as well as some long lost and never heard tracks. ... more
